Team: Cesar Gill, Jaime Daigle, Kristen Rector, and Louis Hoffman

I developed our mobile app’s brand identity including but not limited to logo design, icon design, illustration design, color palette, and presentation design. I also created a website concept, the app’s on-boarding flow, and worked with the team to develop our mission statement, overall vision, tone, and collaborated on the design of our user flows and UI design.

Happy Plant Application

Branding, Illustration, Basic UI

Happy Plant came to be during a lab for my Masters Program. We were tasked with developing a new product or service to work on for the course of the semester lab. Our group came together because of our love of or desire to love plants and care for them better. The application concept came from group lead, Kristen Rector. After we formed a team, we broke up core responsibilities and shifted into group brainstorming to determine the features and priorities for our application.

The application is meant to serve as a plant parent helper to assist with watering reminders, plant rotation in light, using AR to determine the right location to put a plant before purchasing, and more. We developed our features, a marketing strategy, launch roadmap, and shifted into prototyping.

As the designer on the team, I took on creating the brand identity for Happy Plant. We did a branding session brainstorming our key traits, what we want to convey, what our mission and visions were, and more, and ultimately we settled on a script logotype that is cheerful, fun, and inviting. I then developed a favicon and icon design for our application, and further refined the typefaces and color palette within the identity.

Next, I started illustrating the plants I have in my own home, and began developing an illustration style to be used within the app and for marketing and brand collateral. After maxing out of plants of my own, we researched which types of plants we needed to showcase and I developed those to accompany the set.

This project was really fun because we had a great team together to bring our concept to fruition. While we did not shift into app development during our capstone, Happy Plant is continually being refined and Kristen is teaching herself Xcode to bring our concept to fruition. Below are some of the logo concepts and a style concept that came up during our process. The logos showcase the progression in our logo to the final result.
