Created for my Design for Packaging Class during my study abroad at Elisava- Barcelona School of Engineering and Design. I partnered with Paulina Jimenez to create a souvenir liquid packaging design proposal that represented Barcelona. We decided to incorporate the city's metro lines and signage with a theme of adventure, to create a water canteen that was interactive and functional. The bottle can be scratched at the station bubbles in order to mark where you have traveled, and comes with guide tags for 5 metro stops- creating an eco-friendly tourist journey that shows more than the typical Barcelona guidebook.
Our process entailed identifying a potential target client, for which we named "the rugged hipster". Once we identified our potential client, we set up mood boards for the type of packaging we wanted, the type of materials, and the core values. Below are some images displaying a few of our mood boards (we do not take ownership of any images found in mood boards; they are meant solely for reference as our inspiration).
Once we had a strong foundation, we began to simplify and illustrate the Barcelona metro lines. From there, we created the bottle graphics, tag graphics, and packaging graphics to work together cohesively. We used dry transfer for placing our design on our prototypes (as pictured in the images above and below).
Our idea was to provide travelers with an interactive souvenir that takes them off the beaten path. The secondary packaging embodies the American 'brown bagging' concept and is meant to further the rugged aesthetic feel of the bottle. We also created an editorial advertisement that would run in 'Stay Wild' magazine, the publication we chose to represent our piece. The publication is shown below titled "All about that H20".
We then photographed our prototypes in ELISAVA's photo studio. Our bottle was selected as a class favorite in our packaging design class- chosen alongside five other classmates' projects from the semester to stand in the end of the semester showcase!
